Client: Local Contractors
Location: Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Al-Rayyan, Qatar
Project Type: Stadium Lighting for Aviation Safety
Product Used: 12 × WL-20K Medium Intensity Aircraft Warning Lights
With the FIFA World Cup drawing global attention to Qatar, the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, located just west of Doha, was set to host major international matches. Due to its height and proximity to high-traffic air routes near the capital, the Civil Aviation Authority mandated that the stadium be clearly marked for aviation safety.
Airspace lighting , specialists in aviation warning systems, supported local contractors with a complete technical design and implementation plan. A total of 12 WL-20K medium intensity aircraft warning lights were selected and installed around the outer roof perimeter of the stadium.
These lights are engineered for 24-hour visibility, featuring:
20,000 candelas flashing intensity during the day
2,000 candelas at night
Even distribution to ensure 360° visibility of the structure from all aerial approaches
All installations were carried out by certified climbing engineers, ensuring the lights were optimally positioned at the stadium’s highest points.
With hundreds of thousands of passengers flying in and out of Qatar daily, ensuring airspace safety above such iconic infrastructure was critical. The WL-20K units provided a robust and compliant solution, ensuring pilots can easily detect and avoid the structure at all times. The project contributes to Qatar's broader commitment to world-class infrastructure and air safety throughout the World Cup and beyond.
